ARTISTS

Richard Jeffrey Newman

Richard Jeffrey Newman is an essayist, poet and translator who has been publishing his work since 1988. His first book, a translation, Selections from Saadi’s Gulistan, the 13th century Persian masterpiece, was published in 2004 by Global Scholarly Publications. His Selections from Saadi’s Bustan is forthcoming in 2006. He will be translating selections from three more books for GSP: Ferdowsi’s Shahnameh, Nezami’s Haft Peykar and Attar’s Elahi Nameh.

NY-born vocalist Haale and her band create a swirling, hypnotic, and exaltative experience onstage, weaving Persian melodies through a lush soundscape that pays homage to Sufi musical traditions and pschedelic rock. Though she sings mostly in Persian, the music speaks all languages, loudly, passionately, defiantly.
Monika Jalili: NoorSaaz brings to life the rich history of Iranian culture through its music and poetry.

Rumi: Lovedrunk is Shahram Shiva's forthcoming CD blends the exotic and the meditative with hip grooves and inventive arrangements of Glissant, mesmerizing vocals and musicianship of Harrison, and the deep, resonant and hypnotic voice of Shiva.
